This process isnât complicated, but it does help capture, in writing, each step at the start of the project, so youâre clear and thorough in communication. This improves outcomes.
Imagine what could happen without such a process. Youâve likely been through a few such scenarios. Letâs say you ask a team member to build of a small piece of software, such as adding a small button to your CRM (Client Relationship Management) software. You sketch out a high-level target and give the developer a week to complete the project. Off they go, coding the requested feature and adding the button. At the end of the week, they proudly deliver the feature. As you review their work, you realize that, because there was no interim feedback during the development process, the feature button is placed awkwardly, and itâs difficult to find. The developer considers the project complete and needs to move on to other things. But you need the project corrected. At least part of their workweek has been wasted, and unless you can free up more time for the developer, youâll be stuck with an oddly placed button. Not an ideal outcome, and a reason why figuring out the alignment criteria in any project is important.
Delegating using the steps outlined above, you can better avoid problems:
Before delegating, pause. Consider the desired outcome for the task. This feature button needs to be easy to locate, click through to the proper page, and automate the collection of customer email addresses.
